Rising

This collection is a tribute to the arduous journey of decolonization. Created using gesso, acrylic paint, sand texture and hard carving modeling paste, these seven pieces explore the transformative process of individuals reclaiming what was lost and making strides towards a better future. The artwork is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and the unwavering pursuit of growth and evolution.

 

The pieces themselves are a juxtaposition of flat surfaces against textured, hard-edged ones. The smooth, flat surfaces represent those individuals who are content with the status quo and lack the desire or vision to pursue something greater. However, amongst them are a few who have an insatiable desire to grow, to improve their lives, and to achieve their goals.

 

The multitude of spots scattered throughout the artwork represent the souls of those who are rising from their troubled pasts, fighting against the currents of life, and striving for a better future. Each spot is a unique and intricate representation of an individual's journey towards decolonization, a testament to their strength, courage, and unyielding spirit.

 

In essence, the message of this collection is that by liberating ourselves from the shackles of our past, we can transform our present, and create a brighter future for ourselves and for those around us. By embracing our own journey towards decolonization, we can inspire others to do the same, and in doing so, we can create a world that is free from the bonds of oppression, and rich with the beauty of individuality and diversity.
